ICON is the longest running science fiction convention in the state of Iowa. It was founded in 1975 by Joe Haldeman's writing class and has been held in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area 21 times so far. It has most often been held in October (on a weekend free of Iowa home football games.) Attendance has been around 425 the last three years.
