So you're all grown up and your mother doesn't dress you anymore, but you
still like to dress funny. Or romantic, or menacing, or heroic. Well ICON
22 supports your right to masquerade. This year at ICON we'll will have
three (3) different opportunities for your costumes to win the acclaim and
admiration they deserve, as well as three (3) scheduled opportunities for
you to get aid and comfort with your costuming efforts.
** Acclaim Opportunities **
FRIDAY NIGHT: A hall costume contest with secret roving judges will be
taking place from 9 pm to Midnight. If you are wearing a costume in the
public areas of the convention you're automatically entered. Our judges
will tap you on the shoulder and let you know if you are a winner, and a
list off all winners will be posted in the consuite at the conclusion of
the contest. If you plan to wear the same costume Saturday night at the
masquerade, it is not eligible.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Our formal masquerade contest with a panel of celebrity
judges who will select three co-equal winners. This event allows you time
in the spotlight with an emcee to pass on to the audience the information
you want them to know about your work of art. All entrants must gather in
the secondary function space by 8 pm with masquerade entry forms filled
out; forms will be available at registration. Each entry may have up to 60
seconds of patter and/ or background music. No musicians will be provided,
so if you are using pre-recorded tapes they must be cued and provided to
the Emcee at 8 pm. Any patter you want the emcee to read will need to be
provided in some legible form.
LATER THAT SAME NIGHT: A second hall costume contest, again with secret
roving judges, from 11 pm to 2 am. All the rules are the same, but
costumes worn in the masquerade proper are not eligible.
** Comfort Opportunities **
FRIDAY NIGHT: A panel titled "Costuming with Found Objects" will be held
at 9 pm in the secondary function space.
SATURDAY MORNING: A panel titled "Presentation in Masquerades" will be
held at 11 am in the main function space.
SATURDAY EVENING: ICON's famed Masquerade Aid Station will be held from 7
pm to 9 pm in the secondary function space. Volunteers will be on hand to
help with makeup. accessories, or a safety pin for the fallen hem, not to
mention helping you fill out your masquerade forms.
